Planning your Char Dham Yatra in 2026? The very first thing you need to do — before booking hotels, helicopters, or transport — is complete your Char Dham Yatra registration. Without it, you will not be allowed entry at any checkpoint on the route. No exceptions.

Why is Char Dham Yatra Registration Mandatory in 2026?
The registration rule didn’t come out of nowhere. It was born out of tragedy.
The registration process for the Char Dham Yatra became mandatory after the devastating Kedarnath floods of 2013. When the disaster struck, authorities had no way to track who was stranded, who was missing, or how many pilgrims were on the route. Families couldn’t reach their loved ones. Rescue teams had no data to work with.
Today, the Uttarakhand government uses this system to track pilgrim movement, manage temple capacity, and provide emergency assistance in case of landslides, weather changes, or medical crises.
In real terms — this registration is your safety net. It’s also free.
Registration fees for Char Dham Yatra 2026 are NIL. Both online and offline registration is completely free of cost.

The Uttarakhand government uses a GPS-based monitoring system to track registered pilgrims — ensuring safety, regulating temple capacity, and enabling fast emergency response.
Once your QR code is scanned at the temples, you can also download a Yatra Certificate from your registration login as a keepsake of your pilgrimage.
Registration Rules You Must Know
- Registrations are non-transferable — they are linked directly to your government-issued identity proof. You cannot transfer your slot to another person.
- Char Dham registration is required even if you are travelling by helicopter. The official Yatra registration must be completed before booking helicopter tickets on IRCTC.
- One mobile number can be used to register a group of around 5 to 8 pilgrims.
- There is no last date for registration, but you must complete it at least one day before reaching the first checkpoint so your data is processed in the system.
- Registration does not guarantee accommodation. Pilgrims must book lodging independently.
Watch Out for Touts — A Warning
On the ground at Haridwar and Rishikesh, you will meet people offering “registration help” for a fee ranging from ₹200 to ₹2,000.
Don’t pay a single rupee.
The official portal is neither closed nor complicated. Registration is free and takes under 10 minutes online. Anyone charging money for basic registration is a tout — register yourself, directly, for free.
